  June Service Meeting part: Marriage, separation and divorce

  i'm curious as to why this is a national topic for a service meeting part?

  has anyone any thoughts on this?.

  I see myself as EXTREMELY lucky to have married my BEST FRIEND. And I did so despite INTENSE pressure from the elders not to do so! Without going into details, the elders felt that this was a poor choice and made sure to ask me all sorts of uncomfortable and invasive questions about our (by their standards) 'lengthy courtship' ('How physically intimate have you been? Have you ever done this, have you ever done that?') during multiple shepherding calls...
  Today our marriage is the ENVY of our cong.!
  In the meantime, the divorce rate of couples in the hall over the past decade is at least 60%, not including those who have cheated on their mates and remained married. No wonder they've scheduled this part on the service mtg.

  On the other hand, I think it's just filler to keep everyone busy studying and not thinking.

  No, you do not need a badge to procure a copy of the new YPA book. I can't imagine the amount of time involved in PDF-ing the whole damn book! Not worth it in my estimation. Nothing new/shocking/surprising from what i've perused. Masturbation Smasturbation!

  Are these the same "anointed" who in the previous installment were possibly having an 'emotional or mental imbalance' and who we really don't care how many there are anyway?

  Welcome! Similar experience here as yours though I was raised in the US and was of the 70's/80's generation ( which in WTSpeak means we're of the SAME GENERATION! Amazing!)
  Looking back, I seriously cannot recall a single day my witness mother did not beat the crap out of me. Not only was this encouraged by the congregation, but one elder actually lent my mother a wooden spoon/paddle/ beating instrument to get the job done more effectively!
  With regards to higher education, I was on the fast track to college with great grades, honors classes and an 'unbelieving' yet proud, supportive and loving father. Yet my mother/elders/piosneers pressured me relentlessly to pioneer and so I did...
  However....
  This never extinguished my desire to learn, and I continued to 'self educate' throughout the years. When I 'woke up' last year, the first thing I thought to myself was' "Shit! I've got to get myself back to school! I've got so much more to learn and do in my life!"
  Long story short, fall semester begins in just a few months!

  i've read a lot of crap in my life (not just wts) and i have finally found the phrase to describe almost every religious wrting i've read.

  "confirmation bias" affects how jws look at historical facts, how dems and repubs look at economic facts, or how all people look at information presented to them.

  i still go to meetings every once in a while to make my wife and my boss feel better about me, but sometimes i can't believe how idiotic some things are.

  This is a great post- interesting stuff! Not that Wikipedia is the ideal source, but check out the example they give under their listing for 'Confirmation Bias':

  DC 2011 Strange omission from the releases

  there are 3 really basic releases for the dc this year.

  revised vol 1 of young people ask.................hmmm lot of work in that one.

  Yeah, the release of the new YPA book seemed completely incongruous with the theme of the last talk Saturday. It did kind of seem like a last minute fill in.
